Trauma
Living in your mind and body can feel like a constant battle with an invisible enemy.
It can be so painful to feel all of the hurt that has happened in your childhood.
Thoughts of mistrust and fears of abandonment creep into your mind day after day, always waiting for the other shoe to drop.
These are all common responses as a result of childhood trauma which include but are not limited to; emotional/physical neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse and verbal abuse..
'That happened so long ago, why do I still feel in pain?'
Trauma changes our brain.
Research has shown that trauma impacts the areas of the brain that are activated in stressful situations; (the amygdala), cortisol levels, and can damage our memory (hippocampus).
Although we cannot go back in time to the past and change what has occurred, we can start today to change the narrative of how you want to live your life now.
We will begin by grieving intangible losses (i.e., trust, safety, a childhood) that have significantly impacted your life.
We will teach you skills and help you implement them in order for you to effectively manage and recover from emotional flashbacks, toxic shame, and relationship issues.
Healing and growth are within reach.
You're not alone if you've tried to push away the memories and tell yourself that it doesn't bother you anymore.
If the effects of childhood trauma are suppressed, left untreated, or worse - numbed out with substances and toxic relationships, it can have a devastating impact on your self-esteem, relationships with loved ones, and physical health.
It’s important for you to know, what you are experiencing is a normal reaction to abnormal circumstances.
Our clinicians will guide you using treatments such as EMDR, Somatic Therapy, and IFS (Internal Family Systems) so that you feel whole again.
